As designers, we often want to jump straight into the creative part of the process. But this is often the problem because we assume what the client needs, and before we know it, we are four weeks deep in amendments wondering where we had gone wrong. 

Now that is where we need to spend more time listening and learning. Before you even touch a pencil to paper or mouse to artboard, we need to understand the client and their business before we can even begin work or create a quote.

That is where this simple branding questionnaire comes in. I can tell you after over a decade of designing and making mistakes, that it's so necessary to utilise this in your process. If not, just to help you understand if the project is right for you or not.

I have put together this awesome simple document of questions I use and adapt for nearly every one of the branding projects I work on. If the client is right for you, they will have no issue going through these with you, and I promise after using this, you will have a much clearer picture of what needs to be done.

Use this template to learn about their needs and gauge their budget. This may even raise some red flags or show you and the client the project is much bigger than expected, and that can only be a good thing, right?!

When you ask the following questions, try to be yourself. Keep it casual and start by showing interest in them as a company and as people.
